Deep Massage Therapy for Plantar Fasciitis

Foot pain is not cool!

Guest writer from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine

Plantar fasciitis is the most common pain on the bottom heel of your foot with approximately two million patients getting treated for it every year. Plantar fasciitis is the inflammation, irritation or tear of the group of ligaments that connect your toe and ankle through the bottom of your foot. It can occur because of excessive strain on the ligaments from physical activity and even improper footwear. Luckily there are several ways to help treat and even prevent plantar fasciitis from occurring before surgery is need to repair the ligaments.

When you start to feel pain along your plantar fascia ligament, the easiest thing to do is stop participating in the physical activity that is causing the discomfort. You can also make sure your footwear is providing you with proper arch support and cushion for your activity. This may cause your shoe to be stiffer, but providing proper support will help reduce pain. Icing the area for a quarter of an hour as well as massaging the calf and Achilles heel area can offer comfort.

Once you have made the initial recovery from plantar fasciitis, you should seek a more aggressive treatment to help prevent the reoccurance of the pain. This can include deep tissue massage as well as taping of the area. Deep tissue massage concentrates on applying firm finger pressure to the plantar fascia, Achilles heel and calf muscles. This type of massage concentrates on specific sore areas and has been shown to have definite results in a couple of days.

Deep tissue massages will loosen the muscle tissues, break up scar tissue, remove muscle toxins and help improve blood and oxygen circulation affected by the plantar fasciitis. These massages work, because they physically break down the adhesions that formed in the muscle tissue by overexertion and strain.

People who have a history of blood clots should not participate in deep tissue massage, because the clots can be displaced and flow to areas causing greater problems. Open wounds or prior surgery in the area will also keep you from enjoying a deep tissue massage.

Actor Charlie Sheen – HIV+, NFL player with plantar fasciitis

Like athlete and business man, Magic Johnson, Charlie Sheen has to deal with his diagnosis of HIV with the public. He will be appearing with Matt Lauer on NBC Tuesday to discuss this. I wrote an article some years back talking about Magic Johnson experience with HIV. The article also shares symptoms of HIV and natural remedies. Read full article at the link below: http://www.examiner.com/article/magic-johnson-talks-hiv-with-the-doctors With Denver’s Peyton Manning of a torn plantar fascia, I feel his pain. I dealt with plantar fasciitis and it was very uncomfortable. A torn plantar fascia has got to be painful. To help me when I dealt with it I realized I had to loose some weight and make sure I was wearing some supportive shoes. I even added inserts for extra support. Chiropractors and Massage therapists can help with Plantar fasciitis. A massage therapist student at the school I graduated from helped me one time when I went to the student clinic. She did a full 60 minute treatment on my feet, including adding ice to rid inflammation. I have dealt with my clients also. At home, freeze a plastic bottle full of water then roll the cold bottle under your foot. This gives relief too. The ice cold bottle with help rid inflammation.

February – Daily Blog during my weight management with Wakanna CBD Tea!

Dr. Rita McGuire
Day 1 of my program

If you have been a reader of my blog over the years, thank you so much for keeping up with me. As you see, sometimes I am not as active as others, but I am motivated to get back into it. Hoping to blog daily in February while I’m doing a weight management program with CBD Tea with Wakanna products. If you haven’t heard of Wakanna keep reading my blog, you got to learn about this awesome CBD company and it’s also a movement!

Wakanna is a company that was founded by four African-American women here in Chicago, IL but the company is nationwide. One of the founders is a doctor, Dr. Rita McGuire. She is also very much into health and fitness. She lost over 60 lbs herself a while back. She said she picked a few pounds back on but she is going HARD to lose those pounds and she is working with a group of us, trying out a new weight loss coffee and tea. I am drinking the tea and I am enjoying it so far.

The crazy part about losing weight on this program is that I am actually eating a lot more than I normally eat. We will be eating 6 times a day. Mostly proteins and veggies. I started back eating eggs for this program which I normally don’t eat much. We will also be drinking a gallon of water a day and working out 5 days a week. So I logged into my workouts with Tiffany Rothe who is a great fitness expert to follow. She’s on YouTube. Check her out.

So stay tuned to this program, and learn how it is working for me. I already take some other Wakanna products, the tinctures, CBD gummies and I use the topicals for my plantar fasciitis. I will tell you more on how CBD is really helping my heal pain!!!

If you want to know more about Wakanna CBD products feel free to call or text me at: 708-232-8970

DAY 8 of the #31Writenow – Got a massage

As a Alumni of Soma Institute I can get free massages at the Student Clinic. My experience has been great. The student therapists I’ve had gave awesome treatments. Knowing the many benefits of massage from helping:
– high blood pressure
– helping mild depression
– pain relief
– improve sleep
– and much more
keeps me coming to the Student Clinic, plus all my positive experiences so far.

I love seeing my clients feel so much better after a treatment and appear so relaxed and rejuvenated, but being on the receiving end is such a nice thing too. Soma Institute defiantly offers great training. This week I asked the therapist to focus on my hands, arms and feet. I learned I had Plantar Fasciitis after all the symptoms lined up with what I was experiencing – pain in the heel of my foot, especially in the morning when I first woke up. It is a condition that normally affects mostly middle aged people. Now my pain had worked its way to a tightness in the center of my foot, deep in that flat band of tissue that runs across my foot from the heel to the toes. My therapist gave a caring treatment where she took the time to really work the tight areas. She did some trigger point therapy and put ice on the foot. After I left the treatment my foot felt brand new!

If you are dealing with the symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis contact your Massage Therapist for this detailed treatment. I offer this technique at my location.
