I have been loosing weight slowly for the past year. I did a Tiao He Cleanse by Nature Sunshine earlier in the year that helped me detox and do a little liver cleansing. I’ve been working out about 3 times a week, going to KS Training Center in Chicago for Zumba classes. I really enjoy that. I work up a good sweat and have fun doing it; dancing to Latin sounds with a mix of Beyonce and Rihanna too, but I was wondering why my weight loss is so slow. I know I am older now, but I wanted to learn a way to boost my weight loss. I’ve lost about 12 pounds now and down a couple of inches in the bust, waist and hips.

Recently I became a part of a online support group for weight loss on Facebook and got weight loss consultation from Fitness expert Carol J. Dunlop. She brought it altogether for me ā€“ eating more frequently and getting enough calories in to keep my metabolism revved up. She explained it all to me and it made more sense. I am excited now and will be eating every 3 to 4 hours now, along with increasing my cardio exercise and adding weight training. I was so glad to have that consultation with Carol.Ā  She helped me put together a personalized program fit for my schedule. I know she has helped many get in shape. I’ve listened to many of her blogtalk radio shows and she was even a guest on my blogtalk show in the past.

The time is NOW and I am about to take action and continue to loss weight and get in shape. I wanted to share her article below. Anyone wanting to know how to eat to loose weight will find this information helpful…

You Canā€™t Lose Weight Because You Donā€™t Eat! By Carol Dunlop

It may seem like a strange thing to wrap your mind around, but it is the truth, you arenā€™t losing weight because you donā€™t eat! The honest truth is you have to eat calories to burn calories. And if you arenā€™t burning calories (or energy), you arenā€™t losing.

Why is Eating So Important? For one thing, your body is made to run on fuel. The primary way your body gets fuel is through you ingesting or eating food. The food you eat is then broken down into useable sources of energy which are then distributed to the cells throughout your body, including your vital organs, like your brain, heart and lungs.

What Happens When You Donā€™t Eat? Ahhh! The loaded question. The answer is simpleā€¦NOTHING! As in your body either stops or slows down your metabolism and related processes so that it can conserve energy.

Our bodies are really miraculous machines. They are programmed for preservation and anything that is a threat to that preservation is dealt with immediately. Not eating, starving yourself and skipping meals are seen by your body as threats, so your body reacts the only way it can, it slows down ALL processes in order to preserve energy it knows that it will need in order to survive. And since it needs nourishment and nutrition to survive, your body searches for food sources from within. Even though you WANT your body to feed on the excess fat that youā€™re carrying around, your body sees that fat as necessary for life, so instead of utilizing the fat, it turns to protein. YIKES! One thing you donā€™t want your body to do is to feed on the protein stores in your body. Why? Because muscle is made of protein. If your body starts to feed on your muscle, you are LOSING a major source of fat burning.

MUSCLE BURNS FAT! So by not eating, you are essentially turning your body into a fat STORING machine and destroying its potential to be a FAT BURNING machine.

How Do You Turn Things Around? As I said earlier, you body interprets:

  • Not eating
  • Skipping Meals
  • And Starvation Diets

as a threat to its existence, so you have to ā€œreassureā€ your body that ā€œthings are fineā€ and let it know that thereā€™s NOTHING to worry about. The way to do this is to eat regularly and healthfully.

Eating Regularly You should get in the habit of eating a small meal every 3-4 hours each and every day. This ā€œregularā€ feeding schedule letā€™s your body know that itā€™s nourishment is NOT in danger and that it can go about its regular activities of keeping you alive and burning fat for energy, without any issues.

Healthful Eating Not only do you need to eat regular meals throughout the day, those meals need to contain calories that your body can actually use to fortify and strengthen itself. Each of your meals should contain the macronutrients, protein, carbohydrates and fat. These macronutrients are essential to helping your body to become and stay a well-oiled machine.

OK, that was easy!

Iā€™m not going to get into the specific breakdown of how much of each macronutrient each meal should contain, that information varies based on your individual body type, age, gender, metabolism and so on. But what I will say is when you start paying attention to when you eat, how often and how much, THIS is when breakthroughs happen.

Remember these keys

  1. You have to EAT calories to BURN calories
  2. Muscle burns FAT
  3. No Muscle equals FAT STORAGE

Donā€™t be in the dark about what it takes to lose weight and maintain that weight loss, with a little bit of effort on your part, you can take control of your weight loss journey and start seeing real results.
