fruit-bowl1Many people are battling with hypertension these days, especially with African Americans who seem to be at higher risk for this serious condition more that other races and happens at an earlier age. The good news is it can be controlled and even prevented. With high blood pressure putting you at a higher risk for strokes, heart attacks, kidney failure and even death it is so important to know your number and have your blood pressure checked regularly. Hypertension can be considered the silent killer because a person can feel perfectly healthy and not know they have high blood pressure. It may be caused by arteriosclerosis, fluid retention, kidney or hormonal imbalances, excess weight, stress, hyperinsulinemia or a combination of these factors. It is so important to live a healthy lifestyle to help control it. Doing things like staying active, maintaining a healthy weight and dropping bad habits like alcohol and smoking all helps.

We are becoming aware of all the negative affects white sugar has on us. Sucrose, common table sugar, elevates blood pressure. It is not clearly understood of the mechanism but it is possible that sugar increases the production of adrenaline, which in turn, increases blood vessel constriction and sodium retention. Find ways to take sugar out of the diet, eat a more natural diet of natural fruits and vegetables and essential fatty acids, diet that is rich in high potassium foods. Read your ingredients on all packages. The diet should be low in saturated fat, sugar and salt. Focus on a low fat and cholesterol diet. It is important to increase fiber intake.

Nice read. Blood pressure and hypertension have been interests of mine for a long time, and I think that a balanced holistic approach is overall the most promising. You have to eat healthy, exercise, and regularly watch your blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and then things should be not too hard. We have lots of info on all that on Blood Pressure Experts, everyone interested is welcome to take a look.

Oh and don’t believe what they often tell you about good and bad cholesterine.. there’s a trick to it that most people don’t know about!
